Binoculars are used by many individuals around the world for a variety of purposes. Some utilise them to survey the night sky but many, like broadcaster and naturalist Bill Oddie, use them to view plants and wildlife including birds.
In an interview with the Guardian, the celebrity stated that he is "utterly indebted" to such pieces of technology. He went on to claim that they have been getting "better and better" over the years and now some of them are "just staggering". He added: "You'd think they couldn't improve them, but they keep doing it."
Indeed, many TV viewers will have seen the nature enthusiast on their screens wielding binoculars many times.
When asked about his use of the devices, he remarked: "Today, I'll be going for a walk on Hampstead Heath, and I'll be taking my binoculars with me."
However, the TV personality went on to say that there is one feature of these viewing aids that he thinks could be improved.
Oddie stated: "Better straps - and that's not a joke. The technology is fantastic, but the whole process of attaching the strap to the binoculars is a palaver."
And when queried as to whether or not the pieces of technology would be redundant in a decade from now, he replied with vote of confidence for the objects, saying: "No, I don't think there will be anything that will completely replace them."
Moving on to discuss technology in general, he revealed that instruction booklets are not his strong point. He stated: "They drive me up the wall, and I think they do with most people."
Meanwhile, Oddie also noted that the most expensive piece of technology he has ever owned is probably a telescope.
As well as his endeavours in the world of wildlife, the TV star is also known for his comedy. For example, he co-wrote and appeared in the TV series The Goodies.
