You Can’t Beat Black Rugs For That Sophisticated Look

Looking round my living room the other day, I was struck by how shabby it was beginning to look. I pride myself that my house always looks up to date and sophisticated, but somehow it was losing its glamour. I was beginning to feel embarrassed to invite friends and acquaintances round. Something had to be done and fairly quickly. However at this time of year, I don’t have a lot of spare money in my bank account, so any new look I had would have to be reasonable inexpensive. Then I came up with the idea of adding some black rugs to give sophistication to my tired looking furnishings. Something to catch the eye and provide a focal point away from the rest of the room. Black rugs provide the perfect solution.

So my next choice problem was to choose the perfect type of black rugs for my decor. The colour wasn’t a problem, but whether to go for patterned or plain was. I was struck by the black rugs which were one colour. Simple in design and available in any size, I felt that they looked right in my living room. There were also different textures of black rugs to choose from. I could have a black rug with a long pile or a short pile, each giving a different effect. Although black is a basic colour, there are also subtle variations in the shade. I could choose from a deep rich black to a lighter variation which almost bordered on the grey. Basically, when deciding on the perfect black rug, I was spoilt for choice.

The patterned black rugs gave me pause for thought. Would one of these give the sophisticated effect I was after? Should I choose a black rug with a motif in red? There are some stunning black rug designs available ranging from traditional to modern and even including some with fantastic pictures on. Also the red decoration would add extra interest to an otherwise plain black rug. I could also have a similar pattern in blue. Grey on black provides some interesting choices too. I was beginning to be spoilt for choice. Black rugs with a white pattern were tempting also, as they provided a dramatic contrast and certainly would have caught the eye in my living room. I had to sit down and think carefully about my black rug choices.

I took careful note of the decor in my living room. The curtains and soft furnishings are red based, and the floor is laminated. The curtains have a pattern on them and this is echoed in the cushions, so both curtains and cushions match. There are various pictures on the wall, and some china ornaments around the room. I also have a collection of family photographs. Because of the numerous patterns around the room, I would have to be careful in any patterned black rug I chose. In the end, I went for plain and simple. I chose a pair of black rugs, one very large one for the centre of the room and a smaller black rug which sits in front of the fireplace. They have improved the look of my living room immensely, giving it that sophisticated touch that it needed.
